It is hard nowadays to
decide what manufacture you’re going to go with. You see ads on TV
where Windows and Mac go at it with each other. This does nothing,
but miss lead the buyers. I know friends, who said all the reviews
say Mac is better, then they go out and purchase one and they can’t
even print a page because there is a learning curve involved if you
have never used one. Well let me brake it down for you so that you
will hopefully make an educated decision and learn not to trust what
the TV tells you to buy. I have both but I will tell you what I use
them for and the issues I have had with them so that you can decide
which one to buy.
I personally own both I have an Alienware
Area-51
M9750 17” laptop that I use at home as my desktop. I also do a lot
of online gaming specially Battlefield 2142. As much play as I do on
my PC I also use it for work I have word documents, excel, and
PowerPoint’s. Having a windows based computer makes it easy for me
to network my home so that I can stream music or media to my XBOX
360, file share with my wife’s laptop, and have occasional visitors
who need to use my printer and use my WiFi connection. I was brought
up with windows and I now just about everything about the operating
system. I can tell the computer exactly what I want it to do, and
usually it listens. The problem with windows is that the operating
system is not designed for intensive graphics designing or video
editing. On of my project I have had is to convert all of my VHS
videos to DVD. This requires a tone of editing, reformatting, adding
media and other time intensive tasks. I found out quickly that a
Windows based PC was just not going to cut it for me. Mind you I
have dual SLI video cards and 4gigs of Ram Memory. I was still
finding that Adobe was super slow and it was making my time
consuming task even more time consuming.
My solution, buy a Mac. I bought a Mac Notebook
with the Leopard OS, Pentium Processor and 2 gigs of Ram not quite
as beefed up as my Alienware
but somewhat decent. Well Adobe must
love Mac because my Mac was not lagging at all while using Adobe but
there was a catch. Mac and Windows are so different with regard to
commands that I had a hard time navigating around the OS. If I
wanted to modify a program or change something I had to pick up a
manual and read it. Yes it took about 4 months for someone who is
“computer literate” to learn. I almost gave up a couple of times.
Not to mention that the software has harder to find, I could not
integrate most of my high-tech gadgets such as my Treo. But after a
while I understood the operating system and began using it like I
did my PC based computer.
Why do I still have both? A lot of games that I use are still only available in PC, I have not yet honed my Networking skills using a Mac, and software such as Visio does not exist for Mac. But my Mac gets the job done while I’m video editing, so if your torn between a PC or a Mac think about what you will be using it for.
One thing I can assure you I have never owned
anything like an Alienware
, I will never go back to a Dell or Vaio
You get much more response time and the graphics are intense when
your playing online.
